How to sew9 steps
  1. Cut and markCut every piece with the grain arrow parallel to the selvedge. Transfer the notches and the marks with tailor's chalk or a short snip into the seam allowance.
  2. InterfacingFuse interfacing to the collar, stand, cuffs, waistband, facings and front edges before sewing anything.
  3. PocketsMake the pockets and flaps and set them on the fronts while the pieces are flat.
  4. ShouldersSew the shoulder seams, the back eased onto the front. Press open.
  5. FacingsJoin the front and back neck facings, sew them to the front edges and the neck in one line, understitch and turn.
  6. SleevesEase the sleeve cap with two rows of long stitches and sew the sleeve into the open armhole flat, matching the notches.
  7. Side seamsSew the side seams and the sleeve underarm seams in one line, from the hem to the sleeve end.
  8. BeltMake up the belt and the belt loops; sew the loops on at the side seams.
  9. HemTurn up the hem twice and stitch, or catch it by hand.
