- Cut and markCut every piece with the grain arrow parallel to the selvedge. Transfer the notches, the dart points and the marks with tailor's chalk or a short snip into the seam allowance.
- InterfacingFuse interfacing to the collar, stand, cuffs, waistband, facings and front edges before sewing anything.
- DartsSew each dart from the wide end to the point, the last stitches right on the fold. Tie the threads at the point, do not backstitch. Press waist darts towards the centre, bust darts downwards.
- Button standsFold and press the button stands on both fronts and stitch them down.
- ShouldersSew the shoulder seams, the back eased onto the front. Press open.
- CollarMake up the collar, turn and press, then sandwich it in the stand. Sew the stand to the neckline and close it from the outside.
- SleevesEase the sleeve cap with two rows of long stitches and sew the sleeve into the open armhole flat, matching the notches.
- Side seamsSew the side seams and the sleeve underarm seams in one line, from the hem to the sleeve end.
- CuffsFinish the sleeve plackets, pleat the sleeve hem to fit and attach the cuffs.
- HemTurn up the hem twice and stitch, or catch it by hand.
- ButtonsMark and sew the buttonholes, then the buttons opposite them.
