- Cut and markCut every piece with the grain arrow parallel to the selvedge. Transfer the notches and the marks with tailor's chalk or a short snip into the seam allowance.
- Set up for stretchUse a ballpoint or stretch needle and a narrow zigzag or the stretch stitch, or an overlocker. Seams in knit must stretch with the fabric.
- Side seamsSew the side seams of each leg, front to back.
- Inside legSew each inside leg seam.
- Crotch seamTurn one leg right side out, slip it into the other and sew the crotch seam in one curve. Stitch it twice; it carries the most strain.
- Waist casingMake two buttonholes at the centre front for the drawstring. Fold the casing down and stitch, leaving a gap to thread the elastic and cord.
- Ankle cuffsJoin each cuff into a ring, fold it in half and sew it to the leg, stretching the cuff to fit.
