How to sew8 steps
  1. Cut and markCut every piece with the grain arrow along the selvedge. Mark the notches and the pocket placement with chalk or a short snip into the allowance.
  2. InterfacingFuse light interfacing to the facings before sewing anything.
  3. ShouldersSew the front to the back at the shoulders. Neaten and press the seams towards the back.
  4. FacingsSew the facing pieces together at the shoulders and neaten the outer edge. Lay the facing on the garment right sides together and sew round the neckline. Trim, clip the curve, understitch the facing and press it to the inside. Before turning, sew a narrow slit down the centre back through both layers for the head opening and finish it with a button loop.
  5. Side seamsSew the side seams. Neaten and press.
  6. SleevesSew the underarm seam of each sleeve. Run a row of long stitches round the cap. Pin the sleeve into the armhole, single notch to the front, double notch to the back, the top to the shoulder seam, ease the cap in and sew with the sleeve on top.
  7. HemNeaten the raw edge, turn up the hem and stitch it. Hem the sleeves the same way.
  8. PressGive the whole garment a final press, with a cloth over the right side.
